October is Fire Prevention Month, “Time to check those Fire Alarms”

So let’s start in the Middle of the List….

What a list this is, so instead of being, “Reactive, let’s be Pro-Active. ” As an owner of the insurance

agency, I don’t believe in scaring our customer’s. Our Philosophy is to remind others, that there are

easy systems in place. Don’t make it hard, make it simple, especially for those in need.

Open Enrollment Time

It’s been said, “That the Greatest Generation is the Baby Boomers!” So if this is the case we are ready to

help those with Medicare. Open Enrollment begins October 15th and runs through December 7 (The

Day Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated, a Day That Will Live in Infamy.” How profound that state is, as this

year I understand, that it’s going to be one of the largest Medicare registrations. So as the weeks

progress until October 15 th , we will be posting some valued information in regards to aiding your

thought process on how to register or what plans should be considered.

The most important thing to remember is, when you’re discussing the outlines on Medicare and your

comparing notes with others. Be honest with yourself, because you don’t know if the person you are

speaking with utilized an agent. Agents who sell Medicare, must be registered with a provider who sells

Medicare Products.

The other factor with Medicare that I’ve seen is, you may not really know what your friend or neighbor

can afford. Some people may even still be working and under a group plan. Not to mention, if you’re

comparing to a Retired Union Worker and they have a Medical Supplement, the comparisons can be

overwhelming. Our office can help on this, not mention even refer you to other sources for other

options.

Second on my List of Review, “Fire Safety!”

It’s not complicated, make it easy for yourself and if you know of any Seniors that may need your

assistance, get off your BUTT and Help them….Make sure there are working Detectors on each floor of

the home. On battery detectors, just change them. No argument, just do it. VIP, Smoke Detectors

should be replaced every 10 years.

Keep your valuable papers in a fire proof box. As a special reminder, that Fire Proof Box should have all

PASSWORD AND PASSCODES FOR ONLINE WORK AND BILLING YOU DO….A COPY OF THOSE PASSWORDS

AND CODES, SHOULD BE GIVEN TO THE BENEFICARY OF YOUR PROPERTY OR ESTATE. ALL PASSCODES

AND PASSWORDS SHOULD HAVE A DATE NEXT TO IT, OF WHEN IT WAS CHANGED.

SPACE HEATERS – If you feel the need to use one, it should allow three feet of space from the

surrounding area. Always UNPLUG WHEN NOT IN USE.

BACK YARD FIRE PITS – NOTE VARIOUS MUNICIPALITIES DO NOT ALLOW LEAF BURNING THAT APPLIES

TO THE FIRE PIT. NOT TO MENTION CERTAIN SHREDDED DOCUMENTS. FOLLOW YOUR MUNICIPAL

LAWS. KEEP A BUCKET OF SAND OR A GARDEN HOSE NEAR…

FOR THOSE WHO ARE DEFINED AS HOARDERS…ONE NEEDS TO HELP CLEAR SOME OF THE ITEMS AND

MAKE WALKWAYS IN THEIR HOMES. YOU NEED TO CREATE ESCAPE PLANS, AS WHEN A FIRE IS

IMMINENT, ONE HAS LESS THAN 2 MINUTES TO GET OUT. CREATE ESCAPE PLANS, GET THE KIDDOS

INVOLVED. NOT TO MENTION, TAKE THEM FOR A VISIT TO THE LOCAL FIRE HOUSE.NOTE, MOST FIRE

HOUSES HAVE OPEN HOUSES IN OCTOBER.

BRUSH PICK UP

Again most Municipalities don’t allow Brush to be burned. There are pick up dates scheduled. Contact

your local Village or City Halls for times of pickup.

Never park your car on a pile of leaves. The heat from the engine can start a fire.

Never drive your car through a pile of leaves, you never know if Vandals have buried a surprise in the

brush. Not to mention, that wet leaves cause spin outs. Talk to your teens on this subject matter.

Okay, you may think this list is over the top, maybe it is, but I just received a call on a purchase of a New

2020 Tesla…I’m off to help that customer now…
