COVID-19: Home Safety and Readiness Tips?

COVID-19: Home Safety and Readiness Tips

The deadly and potent COVID-19 is disrupting normal routines throughout the world and requiring many people to isolate at home, particularly higher risk persons such as senior citizens and those with autoimmune diseases. So, what can you do to remain vigilant, safe, and healthy—both physically and mentally—on the home front?

  • Wash your hands at the door and at regular intervals.
  • Stop handshaking.
  • If guests are necessary, try to stay at least 6 feet from them.
  • Avoid touching your face and cover coughs and sneezes (with your bent elbow or a tissue); keep reminding vulnerable family members and children about this preventive action.
  • Disinfect surfaces like doorknobs, tables, and handrails regularly.
  • Increase ventilation by opening windows.
  • Give sick family members their own room, if available, and remember to keep the door closed; have only one family member care for this sick individual.
  • To deal with isolation, reach out every day via Skype and/or phone calls to family and friends.
  • Make every effort to exercise every day.
  • Remain optimistic! Virtually every deadly virus eventually runs its course and weakens in time.
